September 08 - I had to put all new ducks on the top of the car, and this time use the proper glue. It seems that the Liquid Nails Marble and Granite is going to work. I started this time with only one and then I let it cure. The next day both Jay and I tried to remove the duck and it wasn't budging! Yay for listening to the glue manufacturers! I have also been working on the hood some more.

June - I got more progress made on the hood of the car, and then I decided to take the plunge and work on the roof of the car. The big duckies are going to hide the bubble machine for when I'm in Art Car Parades. ;)

Day 6 - May something or other..... was the last day I worked on it. It's been really fun to drive around. I have been getting more and more people donating.... which is awesome too! Thanks everybody!

Day 3 - 4.30.08 - Today I made some more progress. The weather was nicer today. I decided to take a little time to get this up on the internet so others could enjoy. :)

And a glimpse here of how the hood is shaping up.

Day 2 - 4.29.08 - Today was again in the 40's but I got out there... and I got more done.... I'm excited to get to some outer regions where I won't have to lean so far... and I can see that that's a few days in my future, but I'm pretty pleased with the outcome so far.

Day 1 - 4.28.08 - O.K. I have to admit that I have had a love for rubber duckies for a long time. I started collecting them in high school, I believe. I have so many in college that I had to get extra nick-knack shelves for them in college..... My mom made me a rubber ducky shower curtain that matched the window curtains she sewed for me, glitter and all that I used for many years in college. So, as I embody my artistic missions, I have decided to Art Car my car. It is an '89 Toyota Camry LE, 4 cylendar Sedan which was my Grandfather's last car purchase. I believe I purchased it in 1994 from my Mother with about 79,000 miles on it. Today she has over 222,000 miles under her belt, having lived in MN, CO, CA and WI, and is just begining her life as The Duckmobile.

I decided to create my Art Car a little over 2 weeks ago. I had a few duckies in the house.... but no where near what I was going to need for the vehicle. Many of the ones that I had collected over the years did not fair so well in storage :( . So, I went thrift shopping and found some great deals. I also love the excuse to shop community supporting stores like St. Vinnie's and Saver's. I researched glues and UV finishes... and am not sure what to do on the UV front, but figure creating a test piece may be a little belated at this point. I'm seriously considering 303 Aerospace Protectant (tm?) but don't like the idea of monthly application needs. I would like to keep those duckies yellow, though. ;)

Well, enough shop talk, well, maybe a little more. I'm using Shermax (Sherwin Williams Brand urethanized calking product) because the Liquid Nails Granite looks like peaunt butter and I need something to hide the dark maroon of my car..... other than that... tweezers and bits of plastic. I hope you enjoy the development. I am accepting donations of duckies - do you have any that feel the need to be on the open road? This will still be my daily use car - as well as our road tripping car! I also will accept cash to go for glue and supplies (duckies, beads, sand paper, etc...) also for maintenance... though she doesn't need more than any new vehicle....and of course feedback. :)

Here's Day 1's Progress.....

I decided to put lily pads around the sprayers for the windshield wiper fluid, in hopes that they wouldn't be obstructed..... I also thought I should start with the hardest place to reach on the hood, so I could lean all over the place and not be moving things already glued.
