Welcome to the Jenland Journal Archive!

Monday the 9th of September 2005

Meant to update sooner, but I have decided to change a few things. :) I hope I can get a few of them up tonight.

Thursday the 1st of September 2005

Ah, how fast summer slips away. This summer was good. Well, better than the last, I should say. I have been treating for Lyme disease. Three different types of antibiotics made me ill. Now I am taking Samento for treatment, and it seems tolerable and productive. Productive in treating Lyme disease means die off, and feeling icky, but it’s still productive. I also found out that I have a blood clotting disorder and have been treating it with great success in the last few months.

We have fired up my bike and hopefully diagnosed the starting problem. We think that the starter clutch is bad, so we have to crack the crankcase and get in there to see. This should be fun. Maybe we’ll try it this weekend. Jay is going to meet a guy who is interested in buying his bike tomorrow. Then we should have space to have mine apart for a while. Then if gas prices get too bad, I can cycle to work.

O, right – I went back to the Los Altos office of Coldwell Banker where I am much happier. I learned “the manager makes or breaks the office” the hard way, but luckily I was able to return to my original office. You Rock, Fred!!

I have started a new painting and am happy with the initial stages of it. I will have to post the last one I finished as well as this one when it’s finished. It was inspired by how wet the spring/early summer was in California this year.

Jay has launched his own site. www.jaymulder.com He has been working on more recording with piano and vocals, as well as diligently training the TiVo. He has been at Salesforce.com over a year now and really appreciates the quality of the people he works with, as well as the challenges his job entails. We have both met some wonderful people he has the pleasure of working with.

We have been camping this summer on two occasions to join Victor Tasi on his journey in California, and to celebrate Steve Brand’s birthday. Both times were in the company of Redwoods. Mmmmmm… Redwoods. On our second outing, both Steve and Jay took similar photos. I shall have to post them. They involve banana slugs.

We have also been to Berkeley to see Erik Lyngen’s bookstore – sorry we missed you! - And to wish Thomas and Aiesha (OMG… sp?) happy travels and the best of luck!! We also happened to meet up with Deanna Tasi and her roommate Justin in a great warehouse full of urban recycling. I got some used books, and Jay got a DVD case. And we located the Isobune in Berkeley! It’s on the way to Deanna’s house! (Isobune is our current favorite sushi restaurant.)

I am working on two craft projects right now; I am knitting myself a sweater, or “Einstein Coat” as the pattern calls it. Jay already has one in a gray color. And, I have made some crocheted slippers. They have been fun! Is my wrist supposed to click when I crochet? Hmmmmm….

We are looking forward to a Mike Doughty show this fall, October 1st in San Francisco. Happy and safe holiday weekend!!

Sunday the 22nd of May, 2005

I have updated the projects page to include our garden! We have 13 edible species in planters around our garage. All but the Tomatoes are 100% Organic. I should have tomatoes and strawberries to eat soon. :)

I have finally found a specialist, Dr. Metzger, who is helping me identify the underlying cause of my health challenges. It has been good, I have found out that I have 2 small hernias which cause a great deal of my pain. I have found Lidoderm patches to be wonderful in managing that pain. I have run a number of tests in recent weeks, and await the "bigger picture" that these should provide. My IgM Western Blot test for Lyme Disease came back positive, so that is a bit concerning. I have also found out that I am allergic to Serotonin and Cortisol. I look forward to treating these challenges and obtaining perfect health.

Saturday the 19th of March, 2005

I have finally made the transition to the Burlingame office and have been thoroughly been enjoying walking to work. Sooo much less stressful than being on the road. The agents in Los Altos were very generous in their goodbye gift to me, and I was instructed to spend it all on myself. So, I got something that I had wanted for a long time, but could never justify spending my own money on. CRYSTAL SINGING BOWLS!!!

I got a Chord of them. It's a C chord, which corelates to Aries and is comprised of C, G, and E. The C bowl that I got is 12" the E is 11" and the G is 9". There was no place safe in the house for them, so I had to go and get this cabinet for them. I got them on SALE if you believe that!! I guess it was meant to be! They are sooo yummie. I think that they even chill the cats out some. I am still a little awed by the fact that I have them. THANK YOU LOS ALTOS FIRST STREET!!

Other than that, I am proud to announce that I have quit smoking cigarettes. I am on day 10 and it seems to be getting easier. I have been getting pranic healing treatments for it, and they are helping immensely. (Thanks MOM and DAD!!) Speaking of pranic healing, Jay and I are signed up to take the basic class in June! Master Co is finally going to be in San Francisco. Jay has been working a bunch of extra hours, which makes his days very long, but I guess that's job security. I have been putting my clover finding talent to better use than I ever have and may have a new product available soon (customizable four-leaf clover cards, want one??). :)

These are some of the ones that I created as going away presents for the people I worked with in Los Altos. These say Best of Luck on one side and www.jenland.net on the other, so people will know where to find my contact info. The clovers are all so unique; I think that's what fascinates me about them.

But, I was thinking that I could put people's names in there, or customize them with messages and things if people wanted. The only bad part is that the laminator smells. :(

Monday the 21st of February, 2005

On the 18th of August last year, I was a little crunched in a car accident. Yes, you could say that last year was not very good for me, health wise. I did manage to finish a painting and do a bunch of knitting. I have put some of the images of my knitting on the projects page, and the new images have been updated. :) Woo hoo! I finally have some energy to do things. As of late, I am taking Yoga and going lane swimming each week to try and get my body back into shape. It seems to be working, and I am really enjoying the Yoga.

I have taken a new job in Burlingame-- no more car commuting!! I am waiting to be able to transfer there, but I am looking forward to learning some new responsibilities and meeting the new group of agents I will be working with!

Friday the 13th of August, 2004

Alright, no beating myself up this time... we just built a new computer, and it's schweet!! I think I was tiring the other one out with the web work I was doing.... I was kinda scared to try to update anything! So the summer has been pretty good! I did go back to work on the 21st. On the 28th I had another cyst rupture, although I had an ultrasound on the 15th and nothing looked abnormal. That was painful.... this time the pain shot down my leg. I tried to go to work, and ignore it, and that didn't work. :( Emergency Room again.. and this time, the morphine let me sleep, so Jay was just sitting there alone for 4 hours while I rested.... I'm sure he's had better times in freshman lecture halls! But, In the beginning of July I went to see my Naturopath, and I was way out of alignment in my pelvis. Upon deeper inspection, we found that my psoas muscles were pulling the right side of my pelvis/hip forward and that was because they were very very tight. So, after some deep, painful (good, releasing pain, though) massage on my right hip, I would occasionally feel it start to tighten, and a slight ovary pain, but I would think about snowboarding, and it would just relax... gravity and mountains and snow are just a great combo! :) So, I had three weeks of NO PAIN!!! I have since started bleeding again, and am feeling the endo pain again.... I just hope it'll stop in a few days this time! Enough about my health.... Jay got a new job! He's working for Salesforce.com It's in the city! He takes the BART from Millbrae. BART is like the subway, so he's been reading a ton more than before. :) We also built a new scratching post for our cats! It's a two post one this time. They seem to like it a lot more, it is more built to their overgrown size!

June 11, 2004

Happy Summer!! I guess I'm delving way into the role of bad web mistress again. February was something else for me. I have recently had a lot of new experiences, which were just not really pleasant. I'll try to give you a condensed version, here.... Feb 4th.... woke up with a sprained neck/shoulder from moving these boxes at work..... Healed and was working fine by the next week.... then on the 10th or 11th?? I gave myself a concussion by walking into my neighbor's new bike rack that was only on her SUV for about 6 days.... Then, on the 16th I had a cyst rupture on my right ovary. This is EXTREMELY painful.... I was going into shock.... almost blacked out from it.... On the 23rd I was still in pain and started Depot Provera (3 month injection) to keep the cysts from returning, as I would not ovulate. I continued to be in pain, taking vicodin reglarly, and I recognized the evil pain of endometriosis... so we ran some more tests and finally on the 16th of March I had a laparoscopy with fulguration/cauterization of the 1 abnormal endometrial node, and the few "classic" powder burn nodes found. I also continued on the Vicodin, and had been spotting since the surgery (maybe a bit more than spotting actually). On the 26th of March I ended up back in the emergency room. I was woken up by intense pain at 5:30 ish a.m., and took 2 vicodins... finally at 6:45 I woke Jay up and told him he had to call in because I needed to go in. The morphine wasn't really helping, but I got some relief from the dilaudid. The X-ray, ultrasound, and CT scan didn't show any reason for me to be in the pain that I was in..... I was sent home. I continued to bleed and have intense pain, and take the vicodin to make it through work. I was referred to the Chronic Pain Clinic. I got sick on my birthday, and by the 20th of April, I woke with stabbing pains in my ear... which were reminiscent of an ear infection. I went to my Internist, and he gave me anti-histamines. I was certainly depressed by this point, from having to take vicodin all the time for the pain. I finally called the mental health department on the 22nd of April and found a great therapist on the 23rd. I cried when she told me that I should take disability to get this all sorted out, but I am making really good progress!! I immediately went book shopping when I left work. I found the Endometriosis sourcebook from the Endometriosis Association, which I devoured. I called to schedule a medical intuitive session; I also called a shaman to see if I could get some Plant Spirit Medicine treatments. The session with the medical intuitive was very helpful to me. I talked to her on the 6th of March. She recommended some diet changes, and that I get a Mayan Uterine Massage. I called a few different practitioners listed at www.arvigomassage.com and finally got an appointment with Dr Francis on the 18th of May. I went in and it was "vicodin time" but I wanted to feel the treatment so I didn't take one. The treatment was very painful, as I was already in a ton of pain, but when it was over, I was in NO PAIN AT ALL!!!! I wanted to do cartwheels!! But, I didn't, as I was sore still..... Then came the withdrawal from the vicodin... fun fun. The work with the Shaman has been exceptional as well. I have been working on a whole range of past issues in the dreamtime. It has been amazing! So, now I am able to address the other issues which were underlying this acute situation, as I learned that endo is classified as an autoimmune disease. I had the joy of a flexible sigmoidoscopy on Friday the 21st of May... I am happy to report I have no polyps, but I have not gotten the results from all the pictures we took of what could be endometriosis in there. I see my Dr on the 15th of June to discuss that. I am now on an organic whole foods diet. It seems to be making me feel healthier, so that is great! But, I am still bleeding, and there is some pain now that I have been trying to really be more active. I walked about a mile and a half on Wednesday the 9th, and then about the same yesterday, and I can feel it this morning. grrrrrrr.... I am hoping to be back at work on the 21st of June!! Please wish me luck!! I think that's enough for now.....

February 2, 2004

Well, Happy New Year! Time has already been flying for me, as I have been a bad web mistress again! The holidays were very nice. We didn’t travel, so that was an added bonus. On New Year’s Day we trekked to Reno, it only took us about 17 hours to get there!! But the six feet of powder that we got to ride was amazing! Sue and Crafton came out for that! It was much fun!

But, then we got back and found out that Jay had pneumonia. So we laid low and I was a little sick too for the first few weeks of January. Then we took the second half of January off to go back to the Mid West! And boy o boy was it COLD!!

We got to see my nephew, Dominik, eat his first birthday cake! It was very cute and messy! He also ate his first French fry all by himself while we were in Green Bay! We spent some time with my parents and my gramma too while we were there.

Then we went to Minnesota and saw Jay’s family. His new niece, Ainsley, was just under two weeks old when we got to see her! So cute! We got to see some friends, but not as many as we would have liked, as the weather wasn’t really cooperating with our travel plans. It was very fun.

Now we’re back to work, and the kitties are glad to have us home. I hope all’s well with everyone else, too!

December 14, 2003

I have been a bad Webmistress!! This has been pointed out to me. Sorry.
Halloween was kind of a dud for us. I dressed up at work, and that was quite enjoyable, but then we got dressed and went to the city. We canvassed for parking for 45 minutes then decided to just come back home. No biggie.
We have been busy! We were up in San Francisco three weekends in a row in November, to see the Matrix, DJ Rap and Ferry Corsten, and Mike Doughty. All the shows were good!!
Then we spent our time getting packages ready for Christmas. With that done, we have been able to relax.
The Holiday party for my office was very fun. Jay and I played some Craps for charity, had good food and danced to a live band as well. I truly think everyone had a really good time! I received a gift certificate from the generous agents I serve at work, and got a new primaloft pillow and comforter today!! Yum Yum.
So, I’m thinking that this flu is really just a cleansing that needs to happen globally. I think we have averted the “plague” type cleanse, but this is still necessary. Has that crossed anyone else’s mind too??
Happy Holidays, All!!

10/27/03

I can’t believe that Halloween is almost here!! I am wearing my Renaissance costume this year. It should be fun!! I’ll throw up a page of costumes, if you’d like to e-mail me a pic of what you wear this year!!

We got tickets to the Matrix on November 7th, and tixs to Mike Doughty on the 21st. These should be fun. Speaking of November 7th, there will be a full lunar eclipse and a beautiful alignment of planets in conjunction with this, which has been said to be the “harmonic concordance”. For more info see: www.harmonicconcordance.com, or hear an astrologer’s take in audio format at www.astrologyforthesoul.com for more info.

I have been having thoughts lately like “Well, we’ve tried industrialism and electricity, and they’re pretty neat, but they’re killing the planet and us included, so we’ve got to stop.”… Which is a pretty nice thought until you think of the ramifications of this.

I am still convinced that we have the capacity to make all these transitions smooth. I don’t believe that this has to be any harder then we choose it to be, as long as we push ourselves to learn.

I hope everyone is excited for Halloween!! I know that I am although we don’t have any plans.

21nd of October, 2003

We went to the October's Birthday celebration in Fremont this weekend. It was fun! Tonight I put some more kitty pics on the Kitties page.

12th of October, 2003

Yesterday we did the most fun thing!! Mary Ellen Carlin took Jay and I up flying around the bay area! She’s a flight instructor with the West Valley Flying Club.
We took off from the Palo Alto Airport a little after 9am and cruised around the bay. Jay and I both got to fly!! I highly recommend Mary Ellen if you are looking for a flight instructor!!

I did much better about taking pictures on this adventure, and Jay took some while I was flying the plane. We went south to Half Moon bay, and over to the East Bay, then up to Oakland and over Alcatraz and the Golden Gate Bridge, then down the 101 on the Penninsula back to Palo Alto. It was my first flying experience at the yoke!!

See Pics From the Sky

7th of October, 2003 -- I can't believe it's October!!

So, who’s been sick?? I am just starting to feel 100% after 9 days of being sick. I took just a little more sick time last week than I worked hours. They kept sending me home… then I’d be home feeling sick…
I finished Altar Music by Christin Lore Weber. I found it a slightly disturbing novel about a convent, which spans three generations of women in a small Minnesota town.
We did go to the Renaissance Festival last weekend, but we only took pics of our group. I really am trying to get in the swing of the picture thing, but it’s strange to me somehow.
Hope All’s Well!!

22nd of September, 2003

Whew! Drove down to LA on Thursday, and had a wonderful time!
We toured the Queen Mary; the Ghosts and Legends tour was very funny, showy, if you will. The history and Hollywood of it were interesting. The Aquarium in Long Beach had the most Jellyfishes that I’ve ever seen! I have yet to review the video that we took from there, but I’ll have to post it if it is good!

The Medieval Times Dinner Theater was very entertaining! Getting to be in the 5th row for The Producers was amazing!! Thanks, Mom!! My Parents and Sister flew out from Wisconsin to vay-cay in L.A. Being at the Hollywood Bowl for the Bugs Bunny on Broadway was wonderful as well. The history behind the LA Philharmonic, and the Great Artists who created and produced Bugs Bunny tied into the music was enjoyable, educational, and fun at the same time.

The drive back was something else. There was a bus that had burned on top of the mountains on the I-5 so, this bus started the mountain on fire, and as we crept up the mountain, we saw the helicopters dumping the water onto the fire. There was minimal smoke, as the groundcover was only small bushes as it is so arid and HOT! But we made it before 10 and that was nice.
Has anyone been to Catalina?

14th of September, 2003

Time seems to be just flying!! I can’t believe it’s the middle of September already, but that’s fine, because we are going to LA this weekend!! That should be fun. My parents and sister are coming out for “Bugs bunny on Broadway” and I can’t wait. We’re going with Jen too!

We saw personal trainers yesterday at the gym. It was really informative, although today I am really sore. I think it will help us get in shape for the snowboarding season, though.

2nd of September, 2003

I made it through the Mars retrograde!! And, today the Universe
Let me know that I am still flowing by giving me Boston Crème Pie
and Gummi Bears!!
This holiday weekend, I made costumes for the Renaissance Festival
we are going to in October. I got the tickets in the mail today!!
We put a new hard drive in the computer, so it’s happier now!!
BT was great at 1015 Folsom this Sunday, and Gillonne is back at
work, so I can stop developing my split personality.
All’s well here!! Hope it is for you too!!

23rd of August, 2003

Weee Hooo!! The weekend is here! Felt so good to sleep in.Work has been hectic, but that's fine, it's temporary...

Got some tickets for the Renaissance Faire, so that should be fun!

Working on Jay's bike's gearing situation. Right now he has Hi and Lo....

Anyone got a suggestion for footwear while doing water aerobics?

19th of August, 2003

Went for a ride on Sunday on the bikes, got a little sun burn. It was fun.

Work has been hard. But, we got to see Mary and Denis last night for a bit, so that was nice.

13th of August, 2003

ok, so Marz apexes on the 25th... so that will end then... which is good... tonight we grilled out some fajitas with the boys...

and got both bikes running!! weeee hoooo!! that is great!! We'll ride for some beach camping soon!!

12th of August, 2003

So, the Worm had attacked my brain by the time work was over, so the tech guy at the help desk told me that I needed to download a beer... so I went home and did that, we worked on Jay's motorcycle until we ran the battery low. We swapped some parts off of the dead Rebel, so it's good we didn't get rid of it yet. Kevin, Mike and Matt are coming over after a long day of surfing.... so we ordered up some pizzas. Hope all's well with you!!

11th of August, 2003

Only found one broken link today... was pretty happy with that... hope it didn't annoy anyone but me. Thanks for coming, and thanks to those of you who commented! I was glad to hear that it was a nice adventure on the web.

10th of August, 2003

8th of August, 2003

Been working on the new version of Jenland.net in Dreamweaver MX with a ton of help from Adobe Photoshop for the past 3 weeks. Making some headway, but still far from perfect.... thinking that some more revisions later are going to be in order, but I do want to get more of my images out there, so I may run with what I have pretty soon.

This Dreamweaver stuff is both easier but denser than the Netscape.... but I think that I like the results a TON better... I'd love to know what you think...

Here's some Pics of the Bay and the Ocean...

More Kitty Pics!! 24th of April, 2003
Hi, there! I just updated the kitty page! There are new pics there! I think that Bruce is growing faster than Vicki right now. It's amazing to watch! I have been working a great deal on the new site, and I'm reading the dreamweaver book, so it's only a matter of time untill I go ahead and put it together. The worst part may be getting the images together. I hope you are enjoying the page! Thanks for all the feedback and kind words!

Kitties are learning! 20th of April, 2003
We're still a little nervous about the kitties not knowing where the litter box is. I updated the meditation page a little. But, I think I am getting closer to having an idea what to do with the new page that is in the works. Hope all had a great holiday weekend!

New Kitties!! 12th of April, 2003
It's rainy here, but we don't mind staying home today with our new little buddies! We brought our kitties home today! We are very excited! I put 5 pictures on the kitty page, feel free to check them out! We hope you all have a great weekend.

Just Kidding, I guess!! 8th of April, 2003
Put some more images up here tonight. I got some of my slides scanned, so those images can be out here, but I am really stabbing in the dark at those sizes, though.....
New images coming on the kitty page on Saturday, if the little guys are ready for travel!!

The last for now...... 3rd of April, 2003
Well, until I find a slide scanner, these are the last new images for a while. The rest of the ones that I still have contact with, at least. Sorry some of them didn't work today, but I'm new at this whole thing, and I forgot to upload the images yesterday!! Important lessons still being learned here. I am thinking about thumb nailing soon. Thanks for all the great feedback! I'll work on a new email tonight.

Weeee hoooo!! 2nd of April, 2003
Well, I got it out there!! I am sooo happy about that! Now I can keep people in touch with my work! Thanks to all of you who have had comments. I worked out some of the link bugs tonight, and hopefully have made it a little easier to navigate! Sorry that the jen@jenland.net address doesn't work yet. I am still trying to figure that one out!

Hi, there! 1st of April, 2003
Had to transfer my domain name or URL I think, today. Then reset my dns's or something... that was a little nerve wracking. But this is how I find out if any of this works right now. It's weird that I have been totally geeking out on this stuff, I stArted on Sunday afternoon, and tonight I am doing the first uploads? if that makes any sense. I will figure this stuff out yet. I hope it's not a bad April Fools Joke.

Well, I bought service tonight!! 31st of March, 20003
I figure it'll be fun to watch develop, or maybe I'll just like it, so I'm going to get it on the web as soon as possible. Got service from DB Wired, we'll see how that goes. I've been geeking out on this whole project, and that's really unusual for me. I've got my glasses on and everything!! I put more images into Jenland tonight, and realized that there are only a few of my new paintings on here.... I will do something about that in the coming days. Hopefully....

Welcome!! 30th of March, 2003

Greetings and Salutations! You won't be seeing the page for a while, because I am working on it, but I did buy my domain today. www.Jenland.net. I hope it works for all of us!!
I perused some books tonight over some nice mint tea..... found out that I should know why I have my web site... I am thinking that it will get my presence out there, and allow people to let me know if they have a comment about my Art.... Or a suggestion! Or want to support my Art!! :) By hanging a piece in their home!
This is my first web page, so please bear with me. I've never authored anything!
Thanks for coming!!
